Building Strong Study Habits Studying isnt learning, unless you do it right. If youve ever heard someone talk about studying, it tends to come before they mention an exam. Studying has become something that too many of us dread; it seems that no matter what, studying is an obstacle. I dont disagree. Studying is a huge obstacle, but it can be overcome with the proper habits. Mindset Is Everything If you sit down to study with an attitude that the material is too much to handle, youll only waste time. Time is precious in all respects, but especially when youre studying. Youve set aside some time to do work, so do the work. Time spent worrying and complaining is better spent working towards understanding your material. Every time I am faced with a difficult concept, I find that after studying effectively I feel more and more confident in my knowledge. When it comes time for an exam, provided that Ive studied enough, I go into the room calm and in control. Its not that I dont get nervous; I just studied ahead of time and know that my knowledge base is enough to handle whatever my prof. throws at me. The key is believing in yourself. If you dont, youll defeat yourself before you even start; it doesnt do anyone any good to think negativelyâ€"least of all yourself. Timing The first step in building strong study habits is setting aside time. If you dont allocate a specific amount of time towards your study plan, youll only be slowing your own progress down. Youll grow more stressed about an upcoming exam because you dont know what to do. Change this into having a plan of when youll be busy studying and when youll be free. It will make your time spent studying all the more pleasing because you know that once youre done, youll have free time to explore your other interests. The same idea behind going to the gym applies to studying: make the time for it and make it happen. Environment The spot(s) you choose are largely dependent on what is around you. If you prefer to study in your home/dorm, thats fine! But beware that it becomes much easier to grow distracted and ever more tempting to do anything and everything but study when youre at home. If you choose your environment wisely, with knowledge of what you can and cant do until youre done with your daily goal, youll make the most of your time. The spot you choose is critical in defining how efficiently you will work. Studying when youre on your bed with the TV on will not only make you less focused on your work, but it also makes it harder to tune out distractions. The goal of choosing your environment wisely is that it will be a productive space where you feel that you can efficiently go through your workload for the day. This leads into two important questions to consider: Where am I most productive? What can I do to make myself more productive? In answering each of these questions, be honest with yourself. If you cant focus at home but dread going to a library, find a medium and see if it works for you (many people gravitate towards coffee shops as an in-between, but make sure that it works for you first before you make that your new spot). After you finish your work, reflect on how you think it went. Did you remain focused? Do you remember what you just did? If you think that something could have been better (noise, company, or even your mood), decide on a plan of how to change it. Whether that means finding a new spot or a new location in your current spot is up to youâ€"the goal is reflecting and learning from experience. Learning Through Questioning The ultimate goal of all of education, in my view, is to become more learned and a better person through knowledge and its application (both for ourselves and for the world at large). When it comes down to an exam, however, the emphasis tends to grow blurred for us. If we fail our exams, what good will learning the material do for us? What if I were to tell you that you can ace your exam while also learning and not just replaying information? The best way to learn while studying is to be actively engaged. Ask yourself, How does X work? and, Why does X lead to Y? Asking these two questions will not only open your mind up to the bigger picture, but will turn reading over slides or through a textbook into an active learning process. Youll find yourself growing curious and wondering; it turns into more than an assignment and becomes a potential source for growth. Youll find that your memory and retention of the information have improved if you apply this exercise regularly. Constant Improvement Sacrifice Habits arent formed overnight. It will take consistent dedication to get yourself to the level that you want to be at. You begin to approach studying without a fear of the unknowns or how to do it right. Everyone studies differently. There are many ways by which you can build strong study habits, but they all start with one key ingredient: sacrifice. Studying is not hard. The only thing that holds us back is sacrificing the time to do it. We all have the ability to work on something, but what we choose to work on stems from what we give priority to. If you prioritize relaxing, then that will reflect on your ability to study and ultimately your exam score(s). You may wonder how some people appear to relax all the time and yet they still perform better than others. We dont see each other 24 hours a day. People who are highly efficient with their time put effort into consistently building strong study habits. The only thing that can hold you back from studying is yourself. Perhaps thats the hardest part of it al l. Honest reflection coupled with dedication leads to action while worry leads only to more worry. May we choose wisely lest we remain in the tunnel with no light in sight. We need only to look up and see what lay in store should we attempt at moving forward. Why ETFE Is the Miracle Construction Material

ETFE is an abbreviation for Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene, a  translucent polymer sheeting that is used instead of glass and hard plastic in some modern buildings. ETFE is usually installed within a metal framework, where each unit can be lighted and manipulated independently. Light sources can be on either side of the plastic cladding. Compared to glass, ETFE transmits more light, insulates better, and costs 24 to 70 percent less to install. ETFE is only 1/100 the weight of glass, and it has properties that make it more flexible as a construction material and a medium for dynamic illumination. It can be used as a single, one-ply sheet or it can be layered, with multiple sheets. The space between the layers can be pressurized to regulate both insulating values and light transmission. Light can also be regulated for local climates by applying nontransmittable patterns (e.g., dots) during the manufacturing process. With dark dots imprinted on the translucent plastic, light rays are deflected. These application patterns can be used in conjunction with layering — using photo sensors and computer programs, the location of the dots can be strategically moved by controlling the air between layers, by stretching or sagging the material, which positions the dots to block where the sun is shining through. When the exterior of the Allianz Arena is red, FC Bayern Munich is the home team playing in the stadium — their team colors are red and white. Characteristics of ETFE ETFE is often called a miracle construction material for tensile architecture. ETFE is (1) strong enough to bear 400 times its own weight; (2) thin and lightweight; (3) stretchable to three times its length without loss of elasticity; (4) repaired by welding patches of tape over tears; (5) nonstick with a surface that resists dirt and birds; (6) expected to last as long as 50 years. In addition, ETFE doesnt burn, although it can melt before it self-extinquishes. Because of its strength and ability to transmit UV rays from the sun, ETFE is frequently used in sports venues that desire healthy, natural turf athletic fields. Disadvantages of ETFE Everything about ETFE is not miraculous. For one thing, it is not a natural building material — its plastic, after all. Also, ETFE transmits more sound than glass, and can be too noisy for some places. For a roof subject to raindrops, the workaround is to add another layer of film, thus decreasing the deafening drumbeats of rain but increasing the construction price. ETFE is usually applied in several layers that must be inflated and require steady air pressure. Depending on how the architect has designed it, the look of a building could drastically change if the machines that supply the pressure fail. As a relatively new product, ETFE is used in large commercial ventures — working with ETFE is too complex for small residential projects, for the time being. The Full Life Cycle of Building Materials How is it that a synthetic plastic film has come to be known as the building material of sustainability? When choosing building products, consider the life cycle of the materials. For example, vinyl siding may be recycled after its usefulness, but what energy was used and how was the environment polluted by its original manufacturing process? Concrete recycling is also celebrated in the environmentally friendly construction world, but the manufacturing process is one of the prime contributers to greenhouse gasses. A basic ingredient in concrete is cement, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) tells us that the manufacturing of cement is the third largest industrial source of pollution in the world. When thinking of the life cycle of glass production, especially compared to ETFE, consider the energy used to create it and the necessary packaging to transport the product. Amy Wilson is explainer-in-chief for Architen Landrell, one of the worlds leaders in tensile architecture and fabric systems. She tells us that manufacturing ETFE causes little damage to the ozone layer. The raw material associated with ETFE is a class II substance admitted under the Montreal treaty, Wilson writes. Unlike its class I counterparts it causes minimal damage to the ozone layer, as is the case for all materials used in the manufacturing process. Reportedly creating ETFE uses less energy than making glass. Wilson explains: The production of ETFE involves the transformation of the monomer TFE in to the polymer ETFE using polymerisation; no solvents are used in this water based procedure. The material is then extruded to varying thicknesses depending on application; a process which uses minimal energy. Fabrication of the foil involves welding large sheets of the ETFE; this is relatively quick and again a low energy consumer. Because ETFE is also recyclable, the environmental  culpability is not in the polymer, but in the aluminum frames that hold the plastic layers. The aluminium frames do require a high level of energy for production, Wilson writes, but they also have a long life and are readily recycled when they reach their end of life. Examples of ETFE Structures A photo journey of ETFE architecture quickly dispels the notion that this is a simple plastic cladding material you might put over your roof or boat on a rainy day. The Swiss architecture team of Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron created a sculpted look for the Allianz Arena (2005), one of the most beautiful ETFE structures in Mà ¼nchen-Frà ¶ttmaning, Germany. Mangrove Hall (1982) at Royal Burgers Zoo in Arnhem, the Netherlands, is said to be the first application of ETFE cladding. The Water Cube venue (2008) built for the Beijing, China Olympics brought the material to the attention of the world. How To Make Colorful Soap Bubbles

Were you one of those kids who tried to add food coloring to ordinary bubble solution to make colored bubbles? Food coloring wont give you bright bubbles, and even if it did, they would cause stains. Heres a recipe for pink or blue colored bubbles, based on disappearing ink, so the bubbles wont stain surfaces when they land. Safety First Please dont drink the bubble solution! Unused bubble solution may be stored for later in a sealed container or disposed of by pouring it down the drain.These are bubbles intended for blowing bubbles, not for bathing.Sodium hydroxide is a  strong base. Avoid direct contact with this ingredient. If you do get some on your hands, rinse them immediately with water. Ingredients Liquid dishwashing detergent  (or another detergent)Water or commercial bubble solutionSodium hydroxidePhenolphthaleinThymolphthaleinClub soda (optional) Heres How If you are making your own bubble solution, mix the detergent and water.Add the sodium hydroxide and indicator to the bubble solution. You want enough indicator so that the bubbles will be deeply colored. For each liter of bubble solution (4 cups), this is about 1-1/2 to 2 teaspoons of phenolphthalein (red) or thymolphthalein (blue).Add sodium hydroxide until you get the indicator to change from colorless to colored (about half a teaspoon should do the trick). A little more sodium hydroxide will result in a bubble that keeps its color longer. If you add too much, the color of the bubble wont disappear when exposed to air or rubbed, though you can still react it with club soda.You may find it necessary to dissolve the indicator in a small amount of alcohol before mixing it with the bubble solution. You can use pre-made indicator solution, adding the sodium hydroxide to the indicator rather than diluting with water.Youve essentially made disappearing ink bubbles. When the bubble lands, you can make the color vanish by either rubbing the spot (reacting the liquid with air) or by adding a little club soda. Fun!If you have disappearing ink, you could mix it with bubble solution to make disappearing ink bubbles.

But over the years adapted to Fourniers side, with the difference that he believed that fantasies themselves had pathogenic psychological consequences.(Masson, 58) It is obvious that Freuds time spent in Paris had a great effect on his thoughts, as well as his later work. Earlier he had stated that the experience of puberty itself was harmful, because it stirred up unconscious memories of early traumatic events . The adolescent experiences were unconsciously repressed ( or even consciously repressed) because they were reminiscent of earlier, more painful memories. Freud is now saying that the early childhood traumas tend to be fantasies , created as a defense against fully experiencing adolescence . No longer is repression an issue, sexual constitution is the only explanation. The ?neurotic? adolescent does not want to acknowledge her own sexual desires, in order to cover them up , she invents sexual tales from her childhood. In 1905 Freud wrote a short piece entitled, ?My Views on the Part Played by Sexuality in the Aetiology of Neuroses? (S.E., 7,pp.270-279), in which he writes:At that time my material was still scanty, and it happened by chance to include a disproportionately large number of cases in which sexual seduction by an adult or older children played the chief part in the history of the patientschildhood. I thus overestimated the frequency of such events ( though in other respects they were not open to doubt) . Moreover, I was at that periodunable to distinguish with certainty between falsifications made by hystericsin their memories of childhood and traces of real events (p. 274)There are several other articles that when chronologically arranged depict the road Freud traveled from isolation to redemption. Never letting go of the underlying sexual theme to his theories , Freud rerouted his ideas to accommodate his colleagues. Immigration An issue long going in The United States has been the topic of immigration. The problem with immigration is solely economics and nothing more. People complain about aliens taking our jobs, lowering our wages, using up our law enforcement time and hospitals along with stealing our identities and a long list of many things. But I believe the real issue is that the common American doesnt understand the real outcomes of immigration. Immigration has been subject to news a lot lately and this is because of the noise it has stirred not only within many states, but in the White House. Many higher ups have different views of what to do with them, as if theyre nothing but cards and we can just discard them if we dont like what they deal us. Its not like we have almost 3 million people in jail who do nothing but cost us billions of dollars a year. Obama recently has decided to let the people who are in the US right no attain a citizenship/drivers license. Obama supports immigration and that is why weve been hearing so much about it lately. In recent talks and articles, there has been some solutions to the immigration issue. Some extremists will say DEPORT THEM while others say let them stay. Some say to make it harder and harder and harder for them to live and thrive in the US so theyll want to retreat to their countries or we should give incentive or encourage them to leave then totally prevent them from coming. Our president however is saying to let them remain, those already here, and this is a good call but at the same time, he does have a law to answer to at the end of his days so this issue is still being considered every single day. I believe we as a nation should not send people back to their origins. I believe we as a nation should train these people so they may be better for our society rather than leave them with nothing so they just take and dont give back. Immigrants already contribute a lot to our societies and our nation so if we were to train them accordingly, the income they bring us (roughly 10 billion dollars a year) will only increase. They raise our production possibilities and also with the large work force they bring, they aid in specialization and many immigrants are great entrepreneurs who create jobs and nobody loves these things more than Mr. Lopez. They make us a country that is in fact more able and stronger. Allowing immigrants to remain in the US is not just a matter of moral but allocation. If we spend all our time, money, and efforts trying to barricade the US from the outside world, this would be incredibly hard and we could and should be doing or working towards more important things. Trying to manage every illegal and find them would also become an issue of liberty and rights and unless the US wants us to write a new contract they better rethink their goals. We are a nation who yearns to grow so if immigrants help us grow, why would we choose to diminish by kicking them out? America needs to not break down its borders, but at least its walls of pride.

The philosophy of MIB has been in existence as early as the 14th century when Bruneis king first converted to Islam. In 1990, a new state ideology was launched to promote the unity of the diverse groups within a plural society. MIB is based on the idea of Brunei as a traditional Malay state, a long-established Islamic state, and a monarchy. Variations in tradition among other ethnic groups are not regional but cultural, social, and linguistic. The remainder of Bruneis residents consists of other (non-Malay) indigenous peoples, such as the Iban (or Sea Dayak). Indigenous Muslims usually are referred to as Brunei Malays even if they are not native speakers of the Malay language. The official language is Malay, with English as a major second language. Bruneis population is predominantly Sunni Muslim, although some of the indigenous peoples are Christian, while others follow their own local religions. Defence force was first formed on the 31 May 1961 known as the Askar Melayu Brunei (Brunei Malay Regiment). Due to its history, only Brunei citizens of the Malay ethnicity (Bumiputera) can enlist in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. The Malay ethnicity comprises the Belait, Bisaya, Brunei, Dusun, Kedayan, Murut and Tutong indigenous races as defined in the Brunei constitution. Military service is not compulsory for any segment of the population and there is no military draft in Brunei. Islamic Brunei proclaimed as an Islamic sultanate. In 1990 the sultan encouraged Bruneians to adopt MIB, the countrys official ideology. The movement, which celebrated traditional Bruneian values and called for more rigid adherence to traditional Islamic principles, was viewed with anxiety by non-Muslims, particularly members of the Chinese community. The Sultan is head of the Islamic faith in Brunei with power on all Islamic matters. Religious education is compulsory for every Muslim people. It is the governments aspiration to make Islam a way of life for the people. The practice of other religions is to a certain extend freely allowed. A part of the regular military training men and women in the RBAF undergo, there are also other support services to ensure that military personnel develop into well rounded personnel physically, mentally as well as spiritually. To this extent, Religious Unit plays a significant role in shaping the men and women in military uniforms into the desired form. RBAF Religious Unit was established on April 1, 2006. The aim of the unit was to enhance spiritual knowledge in military personnel based on Islamic and MIB values. Soldiers were given an opportunity to improve their professionalism as a soldier and a productive citizen through services rendered by the unit, such as Islamic education and other religious services like counselling. The Religious Unit operates through a system that has been formulated through meticulous coordination, planning and implementation to produce highly compatible soldiers who go through an intense character development programmed based on Islamic virtues. The Royal Brunei Land Forces have helped the less fortunate in various programmed. The building of a house to ease a poverty stricken individual is a good example of benefits can be derived from the religious unit. RBAF continues to strive in community development based on the Islamic principle of seeking to help the less fortunate. The Religious Unit was an instrument in delivering religious lectures in various workshops conducted throughout the year. Military personnel have helped religious officers within RBAF to deepen their religious knowledge to assists the RBAF community in areas such as counselling, performing the Haj, collecting `zakat, maintaining RBAF staffs welfare and preparing an RBAF personnel body during a funeral. Soldiers have benefited immensely from the Religious Units contribution by becoming more receptive of their roles as a guardian of peace and to themselves as individuals. Monarchy Brunei is a well-established Islamic monarchy, meaning that the supreme authority over the state is vested in the Sultan and that the principal organs of administration are under direct royal control. The Sultan is at the same time Head of State, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence. This implies that he is the supreme commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. In conjunction with the 4th Anniversary of the Brunei Malay Regiment on 31st May 1965, Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien Saadul Khairi Waddien granted the Royal title when the word Diraja (Royal) was added to the Brunei Malay Regiment and since then, the Brunei Malay Regiment changed its name to the Askar Melayu Diraja Brunei (Royal Brunei Malay Regiment). On 31st May 1966, the Royal Brunei Malay Regiment was bestowed with the colours of Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Saadul Khairi Waddien a year after it was given the Royal title in the Royal Colours Presentation Ceremony at Berakas Camp. The colour was green, with a background showing the symbol of a moon and a star at the bottom right, while at the above left is the personal emblem of Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Saadul Khairi Waddien. In conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of Royal Brunei Malay Regiment on 31st May 1971, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam bestowed another colour known as the Royal Colours at the Padang Besar, Bandar Seri Begawan. The Royal Colours is yellow embossed with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulahs personal emblem at the bottom right whilst the symbol of the Royal Brunei Malay Regiment is placed at the above left. With the bestowing of the Royal Colours, His Majestys colours were converted to the Units Colours. On 27th May 1978, in accordance with its 17th anniversary, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam, granted to bestow the First and Second Battalion with two colours, namely the Royal Colours and the Units Colours. The ceremony took place at Padang Besar, Bandar Seri Begawan. The only difference between the two colours is the additional Roman letters I and II, symbolizing the First and Second Battalions Royal Brunei Malay Regiment. In 1981 the Womens Company (strength 250) was formed of which Her Royal Highness Pengiran Hajah Mariam became Colonel Commandant. In 1983, in the wake of Bruneis independence, the name Royal Brunei Malay Regiment was changed to Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (RBAF). Once again, history was made with the bestowing of the new Royal Colour and Unit Flag on 12th July 1994 to the First, Second and Third Battalions of the Royal Brunei Armed Land Forces. The presentation of colours ceremony was officiated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam. The colours as a symbol and essence of heroic spirit and to sacrifice to maintain the security and defend the sovereignty of Brunei Darussalam in accordance with the concept of Malay Islamic Monarchy. PURPOSE OF MIB IN RBAF The introduction of the MIB concept in the RBAF is intended to orientate education towards the development of a pool of manpower, skilled in many fields as well as aiming at ensuring a Bruneian identity, peace and security, and communal well-being in Brunei-Darussalam. The importance of MIB are: To encourage every personnel a mental outlook and attitude of life and such positive qualities of character as will enable the realisation of a society which is consistent with traditional Brunei virtues, such as strong religious faith, loyalty to the Monarch and a desire for balanced progress and development. To transmit teachings which are consistent with national aspirations whereby the nation is seen as a MIB in which responsibilities are to be shouldered by all people at all levels of society, without regard to descent, beliefs, religious faith or traditional customs. College Essay Essay

Why is college important to me? College is important to me for many reasons. One being, my future goals will be unattainable without it. Also, I would be setting a good example for my kids once they reach the age to further their education. Another reason being, I never imagined I would finally make it to college. There are many more reasons as to why, but these are just a few reasons why college is important to me. I believe everyone should fight for their dreams. By setting goals, you have a plan and steps to follow in order to accomplish whatever dream you want. The world today runs on how successful a person is as well as how much money an individual has. I have always wanted to be a criminal psychologist. No matter what, I am going to need a doctorate degree. But, what if people cannot afford that or do not want to complete that much schooling? If you do not have some amount of post secondary schooling, you are not going to be as successful as someone who does have that education. â€Å"Occupations that typically require post secondary education for entry have higher wages. (BLS)† America runs on money. Everything costs a certain amount. Therefore having a post secondary education is what will get you far in life. It will help you gain the success you strive for. With a higher education, you can also live a more comfortable life without having to worry about financial problems, because you have a higher education and therefore more knowledge about a profession. I am constantly striving to do my best so that when I have kids they know what it entails to lead, not only a successful life, but also a comfortable, worry free lifestyle. My parents never went to college. The highest level both my parents had was a high school diploma. I never had an example of someone who went to college or got that kind of education. I was never one of those children who always knew where they were going to college because they were going to follow in their parent’s footsteps. Due to my parents lack of post secondary education, as well as no education on how to handle finances, my parents always had bill collectors calling. We were in extreme debt and my parents never knew what they could afford. Instead they would just spend money like it was growing on trees. I do not want any of this for my children. If I want to be able to spend money like there is no limit, then I know I need an education that can support the financial needs for my family and me. If that means getting a doctorate degree and still furthering my education after that, then that is what I will do. I don’t want my children to have to see me getting calls from bill collectors. It can be very scarring. College will always be recommended for that. It will always be something in the forefront of their minds. College was never something that I ever thought I would accomplish. Due to my parents not going to college, I never thought it was expected of me or it was even that important. Once I got into high school, everyone would talk about what kind of profession they wanted to be in and what college they wanted to go to. Everyone would worry about their grades, sports, and the electives they were a part of. They were all worried about what it would look like to college admissions counselors. I was never like that, until I moved out of my mom’s house. I was placed in a foster home during my junior year in high school. It started out okay. I had two sisters and everyone was nice. But after a while, I just wanted out. My senior year had came and I started applying to the colleges that were farthest away. I wanted to be no where near where I was from. I did not want anyone to come visit me. So, Ohio State became my dream. It was cold, always snowing, so naturally, no one would want to go there. It never happened because of other events that ended up occurring in my life. However, if I had never been placed in a foster home, college would have never been a thought in my mind. In the end, I went to cosmetology school and I am now taking online classes majoring in criminal justice. College is one of the most important things someone can do in life. Today, not many professions are attainable without a college degree or being certified in some kind of industry. Children need to be shown from an early age that college is always going to be an expectation for them so they can live a successful life. I am striving to do what I love to do. I am going for my dream, just like what Steve jobs said: â€Å"You’ve got to find what you love†¦ Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way  to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. Arbor Day Calendar by State and Date

Each states Arbor Day celebration starts with the signing of an Arbor Day proclamation by local officials and Arbor Day activities related to trees and tree planting. Celebrations are held as early as January and February in some southern states and as late as May in northern locations. National Arbor Day is observed on the last Friday in April. These dates were promulgated using a variety of special criteria. Politicians have grabbed dates out of thin air; a states tree deemed to be of significant import use their date of legal canonization, but most U.S. states opted for a reasonable date in spring. April was the choice for most as Arbor Day and May in colder latitudes. National Arbor Day is on the last Friday of April and celebrated at the same time by 28 other states.
